I was inspired by a pad of multicolored animal prints. I pulled out the multi color pages of giraffe and zebra pages as I had my nieces favorite animal and mine to make a page with. I sat and pondered wondering how do I make use of all of the paper as I couldn't pick just one. It finally hit me I need to weave it. While working on my nieces Bonaire scrapbook I ran across this great article about scuba diving in Bonaire. I just had to use it in the book. The scrapbook was a 12x12 book so I added some 8 1/2"x11" sheet protectors to the outside of the page. I like how it allowed me to include the article. I wanted to find a fishy way to show these great first underwater shots my niece took. As I scoured Google for an idea, I ran across this butterfly template. (http://www.clubcreatingkeepsakes.com/blogs/ck_community/archive/2010/05/01/download-numerous-free-digital-scrapbooking-kits-for-digital-or-traditional-layouts.aspx) I thought: if only it was a fish. So I made one. After several drafts I finally got what I was looking for. Then I decided I needed more little fish to go with it. I was so excited to find these pre-cut scrapbook items in the gift shop at The Wilds in Ohio. Now I never pass up a gift shop and I'm often surprised to find scrapbook options. I love the textured look of stitching. I enjoy using the tools from We R Memeory Keepers. Piercing the paper with fun designs is easy. This is one of my favorite stitched pages. This was a first time shot at using the frame of the cricut letters vs the letters themselves. I thought this format matched the architectured designs of the walls better than the letters. I also decided not to mat the photos as they layered in a more natural fashion this way. I think it highlights their beauty more with out the matting. The island of Bonaire has two sides. A calm beauty and turbulent excitement. I wanted to capture this in my scrapbook page. I used the french door flip pages to give the inside layout a little more room and to provide some drama for opening a section at a time. On the calm side I used the same background paper but muted it by overlaying blue velum. I think it helps express the oceans beauty and calm that we experienced on the island and under water on the beautiful reef. Behind the right flip page I left the background with its loud and turbulent look. With both pages open the memories of the differing landscape is captured. After my fun zoo page weaving I used the same technique to provide a backdrop on this page. This page has a tight weave of multi colored strips. I then trimmed the weaved section with matching cardstock. |
AuntieI love putting the books together almost as much as the wonderful week with each niece. Archives
